The Times of Zambia is reporting that the country's telecoms regulator, the Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ), has issued an ultimatum to mobile operator Zain Zambia to rectify technical issues on its network.
The regulator has given the cellco 48 hours to resolve ongoing service outages, stating that it may impose financial penalties if satisfactory service is not resumed.
Lotty Kabuko, director of public and international relations at CAZ, said: 'The CAZ wishes to inform the general public that we are aware of the service outages being experienced by users on Zain Zambia network. Given the length of time that the problem has persisted, Zain Zambia has been directed to resolve the problem within 48 hours.'
