Nigeria's Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has extended the deadline for the submission of technical and financial bids for ailing incumbent telco Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) and its mobile arm M-Tel, reports local newspaper ThisDay. The deadline for interested parties to submit bids was originally 2 October, but has been pushed back to 26 October.
The winning bidder is expected to be announced on 9 November. It is understood that the deadline has been extended due to the complexity of the process, and to ensure that the BPE does a thorough job to limit mistakes.
13 parties have expressed an interest in NITEL: Etisalat Nigeria, Omen International Limited, Summit Group, MTI Consortium, Finetek.Com/Ericsson, MTNL of India, Globacom, MTN Nigeria Communications, Anas Network Services Limited, Telefonica of Spain, MetroPCS Communications, Brymedia and Galaxy Backbone.
